Local Community Centers - This is a list of community centers in the area, offering services to East St. Louis District 189 students. The services available include enrichment activities, lunch, snack, and extended programming hours.


The East St. Louis School District is committed to providing educational experiences for students Pre-K through twelfth grades. The experiences will ensure that students are afforded the broadest range of opportunities to reach their academic potential and thus become productive and contributing members of society. Opportunities are inclusive of, but not limited to, community-based programs and post-secondary options that focus on reading and mathematics strategies which ensure that each child is proficient at every grade level.

Dear Parents and Guardians of School District 189:

East St. Louis School District 189 will offer Kindergarten, first, fifth, and eighth grade students who attend a district school a free school physical or immunization.

Immunizations will be offered 8 a.m. to noon, and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Monday-Friday at Vivian Adams Early Childhood Center, 501 Katherine Dunham Pl. Parents must accompany children. Walk-in appointments are available for immunizations.

Physicals are done at Vivian Adams by appointment only from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays. Call 618.646.3296 to schedule a physical. Parents or guardians must fill out a “Consent to Services” form and the primary parent or guardian must be present at the appointment. This is a service offered only to school district 189 students.

School physicals and immunizations can also be done from 8:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays; and from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. only on Fridays at the school-based health clinic at East St. Louis Sr. High School, 4901 State Street. A “Consent to Services” form must be filled and a parent/guardian must be present during the appointment. The health clinic at the high school requires a payment of $15 or a medical card.


Consent Decree Between East St. Louis School District 189 and ISBE

Dear Parents, Patrons, Staff, and Community Members,

Attached is the Consent Decree agreed upon by the East St. Louis School District 189 Board of Education and the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). The Board and ISBE will work collaboratively to meet the goals of the Decree, which are targeted at increasing academic achievement for our students and establishing financial stability. I am privileged to lead the important work of facilitating this improvement process.
